Stump Grinding Gold Coast
Tree Removed?
Don’t Forget the Stump
Once a tree comes down, the stump is often the last thing people think about - until it's sitting in the middle of the lawn, getting in the way of mowing, or becoming a trip hazard. The Good Wood Co. offers stump grinding as an add-on to tree removal, leaving the area clean and ready to turf, pave or replant.
We service Burleigh Heads, Robina, Southport, Helensvale, Coomera and surrounding areas across the Gold Coast.

Stump Grinding as Part of Your Tree Removal
When you book a tree removal with The Good Wood Co., you can add stump grinding at the same time. It's the most efficient way to handle it - our team is already on site with the equipment, and grinding the stump while we're there saves you a separate visit and a lot of hassle.
Stumps are ground to 300mm below ground level as standard, which is deep enough to lay turf, pavers or concrete over the top, or to plant directly into the area.
Why remove the stump?
Stumps are a trip hazard, particularly in lawns and high-traffic areas
They take up space that could be used for lawn, garden beds or hard landscaping
Old stumps attract termites and other wood-boring insects
Some species will reshoot from the base if the stump is left in the ground
They make mowing and garden maintenance harder
A bare stump can detract from the overall look of the property

Stump Grinding vs Stump Removal
These two terms are often used interchangeably but they're different processes. Stump grinding uses a machine to cut the stump down below ground level, leaving the root system in place to break down naturally over time. Stump removal involves extracting the stump and the root ball entirely, which is more disruptive and typically only necessary for large-scale landscaping or construction work.
For most residential properties on the Gold Coast, stump grinding is the right solution. It's faster, less disruptive to the surrounding area, and the remaining roots break down on their own without causing problems in most situations.
How Stump Grinding Works
1. Pre-work check
Before starting, we check the area around the stump for underground services - water pipes, irrigation lines and electrical cables are the main ones to watch for. If there are any concerns, we'll discuss the best approach before starting.
2. Access assessment
Our stump grinder needs enough clearance to get to the stump. We'll check gate widths, pathways and access routes on arrival. If access is tight, we'll talk through the options - in many cases fence panels or gates can be temporarily removed to get the machine in.
3. Grinding
The grinder works through the stump and surface roots, reducing it to wood chip at 300mm below ground level. Palm stumps, hardwood stumps and softwood stumps all respond differently and our team adjusts the approach accordingly.
4. Clean-up and wood chip options
Once the stump is ground, you'll have a mix of wood chips and soil where the stump was. We can spread the chips as mulch in garden beds, backfill the hole with a mix of chips and topsoil, or remove the material from site entirely - just let us know what works best for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions - Stump Removal & Grinding Gold Coast
-
Currently we offer stump grinding as an add-on to tree removal. If you have a stump from a previous job, get in touch and we can discuss your options.
-
We grind to 300mm below ground level as standard. This is deep enough to lay turf, pavers or concrete over the top, or to plant directly into the space. If you need it deeper for a specific project, let us know.
-
In most cases no. Grinding to 300mm below the surface removes the active growing tissue and the stump won't reshoot. Some species are more persistent than others - if you're concerned about a particular tree, ask us and we can advise before we start.
-
Generally no. Stump grinding removes the stump mechanically so poisoning isn't usually needed. If the species is known to reshoot aggressively from roots, we may recommend a treatment - we'll let you know if that's the case.
-
Yes. Palm stumps are common on the Gold Coast and respond well to grinding. The fibrous structure of a palm stump is different from hardwood so the process is slightly different, but the end result is the same.
-
Yes. Our equipment can work in confined areas including side passages, enclosed gardens and areas close to fencing or structures. If access is particularly tight, let us know when you get in touch and we'll factor it into the quote.
-
You've got a few options - spread as mulch in garden beds, mixed back into the hole as it's backfilled, or removed from site with the rest of the green waste. Let us know your preference and we'll handle it accordingly.
-
The grinder works in a focused area around the stump. Some surface disturbance around the immediate area is normal but the surrounding lawn and garden beds are left intact. We carry out a clean-up once the job is done.
