Grass clippings, leaves and a few small branches will usually fit without too much trouble.

After bigger tree work, though, it's a different story.

A single large branch can take up most of the bin, and after a tree removal you can be left with a surprising amount of branches and green waste. Trying to get rid of it one green bin at a time could take weeks.

For small gardening jobs? Absolutely. For the remains of an entire tree? Probably not.

Hiring a Green Waste Skip Bin

Another option is to hire a green waste skip. This can work well if you're doing the work yourself or have already been left with a large pile of garden waste. You have the skip delivered, load everything into it and the hire company collects it when you're finished.

There are a few things to think about first. Skip hire adds another cost to the job, you'll need enough room on the property to put it, and you still have to cut and load the branches yourself.

If the skip has to sit on the street rather than your property, it's also worth checking whether council approval or a permit is required.

The downside is the time involved.
